Tenor Ukulele with a “Chinese New Year” Theme.
This tenor ukulele was made for an Musical Istrument Makers Forum (MIMF) challenge to build a holiday-themed instrument for less than $100 in 6 weeks. It was made for a friend to celebrate the 2012 Chinese Year of the Dragon. The top is Western red cedar, the back and sides are birch, the rosette, headstock cap, and end cap are anegre. The neck is a 3-ply maple laminate. The fingerboard is tulipwood and the position markers are green snail. The Chin (Chen) family name on the headstock and the dragon on the rosette are brass. The rosette, headstock and tailpiece were dyed red for the Chinese New Year.
